Firms 'should look into CPU at web hosting company'

When selecting a <a href=web hosting company, the central processing unit (CPU) used in the server should be one of the primary considerations, it has been claimed. ">According to Intrahost, it is more important to look into this than to find a firm offering fast bandwidth and huge quantities of hard disk space.

It noted that less than one per cent of customers will use their quoted bandwidth figures or the amount of space available on the hard drive.

"The key criteria to a fast host are the type of CPU in the server, the CPU speed, the amount of RAM available to your website," it commented.

In addition, the online portal said people looking for a web hosting firm should consider the overall number of active websites being operated from the server.

With servers hosting a large number of websites, there is less CPU time and memory that can be dedicated to each one, Intrahost explained.

Last month, Paul Garside said in an article for RealBusiness.co.uk that web hosting was a good way to reduce the "pain" associated with IT management.
