virtualisation will help firms to minimise their costs and simplify their IT solutions during the economic downturn. ">Johannes Kanis, a service line architect at Microsoft, told ITWeb that the recession has not reduced the expectations placed on IT services.
Indeed, he noted that IT departments are expected to deliver the same quality and value for a lower cost and smaller investment.
He commented: "It therefore makes sense to simplify the complexity of one's IT environment in order to drive down the overall cost of ownership."
The expert, who will speak at the second annual Virtualisation of the Enterprise conference, said business strategies and "IT challenges" need to be balanced.
Mr Kanis added that IT should be considered a "strategic asset" rather than simply another expense.
This comes after the State of Disaster Recovery survey conducted by Harris Interactive found that over the next two years, virtualisation technology will be used for disaster recovery plans by half of respondents.
