Security needs tighter focus in cloud computing

According to CNN, Thomas Parenty, managing director of Parenty Consulting, a Hong Kong-based information security consultancy firm, feels that more needs to be done to ensure safety in the field.

He said: "There are many motivations for why an individual or a company would want to engage in cloud computing. None of them have to do with enhanced security."

Businesses are jumping at the chance to cut costs through cloud computing, but Parenty Consulting highlights that it is unclear which individual is managing the computers holding potentially important information.

"You have no idea what protections may or may not be in place to make sure your information is not stolen or disclosed or that it does not accidentally disappear," it was added.

The lower technology-based capital expenditures associated with cloud computing are often seen as the biggest benefit of the strategy.
