Virtualisation or server hosting could be the answer to technological problems caused by strikes.">This is the view of Riverbed Technology, which said that systems must be made accessible to staff when they are not on site.
It could be particularly useful during strike action, such as that planned among London Underground maintenance workers over the next few weeks.
Senior EMEA director of marketing and alliances at the firm Mark Lewis explained that work productivity will drop when employees cannot access their company's systems.
"Organisations could look to adopting a homeworking contingency plan," he explained.
Being able to access applications and files from a remote location, which cloud computing could enable, may be a good idea in these situations.
Last month it was reported that hundreds of London Underground maintenance workers would go on a series of 24-hour strikes.
This was due to rows over outsourcing and new rosters. The National Union of Rail Maritime and Transport Workers said hundreds of its workers would walk out on February 5th and February 14th.
It said that London Underground had "bulldozed" through rosters, among other things criticised by the union. However, these claims were strongly denied.
