Microsoft's SharePoint 'important during economic downturn'

A spokesperson for the computing giant asserted that the product helps firms deal with a range of tasks within their organisation.

It allows collaboration on documents and helps with content management, business intelligence and organising records.

The programme can also enable users to create MySite portals where information can be shared through wikis and blogs.

"Businesses of all sizes are realising the value that SharePoint can bring to their organisations - especially in these tough economic times," the Microsoft spokesperson commented.

She noted that there is a strong demand for IT professionals trained to use SharePoint and that this indicates how important the product is in the business world.

The representative of Microsoft added that the company had been surprised with the massive growth and demand for SharePoint, but said that it is expected to continue to be successful.
