Microsoft's SharePoint 'had huge impact'

A management expert has asserted that the introduction of <a href=Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 was one of the most important events in the sector for 20 years. ">Duncan Williams, sales and marketing director at Deltascheme, claimed that SharePoint is such an essential product that Microsoft does not need to focus on marketing it.

He noted that the main challenge for the sales department was encouraging user adoption rather than pressing potential customers to purchase it.

"With 19, nearly 20, years experience in this industry, the arrival of SharePoint Server 2007 is without question the biggest thing seen in this industry since its inception," Mr Williams commented.

A spokesperson for Microsoft recently said that SharePoint would be important for companies that are struggling to survive the recession.

With services such as content management systems, collaboration and business intelligence, the product "spans so many areas" and is likely to prove critical to many firms during the economic downturn, she said.
