Microsoft expands infrastructure to accommodate high traffic

<a href=Microsoft has announced that it was forced to expand the infrastructure behind its website to cope with the high traffic levels sparked by the release of the Windows 7 beta.">A free version of the operating system was put on the company's site for download on Friday, but the interest was so high that Microsoft had to make modifications prior to the public release in order to accommodate the traffic demands, stated Brandon LeBlanc in the Windows Blog.

"We are adding some additional infrastructure support to the Microsoft.com properties before we post the public beta," he explained prior to the beta going live. "We want to ensure customers have the best possible experience when downloading the beta."

A poster called Bryant suggested in the message's comments section that such modifications may have been unnecessary and that Microsoft might have been able to get around the problem by using BitTorrent instead.

Using Linux servers and ColdFusion may have also helped to prevent the problems, according to two unregistered users commenting on a report of the news from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.ADNFCR-1984-ID-18967598-ADNFCR
