Expert lists online marketing don'ts

An online marketing expert has created a list of golden rules for selling products and services on the internet. Guy Kawasaki, managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, highlighted the importance of email for an ecommerce firm in an article for bMighty.com.

He said that firms should make it simple for customers to sign up to feeds and email lists and asserted that companies need to allow consumers to create accounts with email addresses for user names.

While email is a vital tool for a company, Mr Kawasaki said it is essential to offer alternative methods of communication.

It might be enough for simple enquiries, but the expert said that many prospective customers will want to contact a firm using snail mail or a phone call.

Consequently, failing to provide contact details other than an email address might have an adverse effect on customer numbers.

This comes after Ricardo Prada, user experience researcher at Google, said on the company's AdSense blog that search engine marketers should ensure websites are practical.
