video content on their websites should include them in search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies to ensure the highest possible ranking on search engine lists.">This is the suggestion of Nate Elliott, who wrote for Forrester Research that that the majority of major search engines - including Google - use blended search at present, which could make things easier for companies to get themselves on to the first results page.
Blended search is the practice of search engines listing videos, photographs and any other related material alongside traditional search results.
There is a one in 500,000 chance of a business getting on to the first results page through a keyword on a text-based page, Mr Elliott explained, while there is a one in 11,000 probability of them getting a video on there.
As such, businesses should ensure that keywords are written in captions and filenames and video libraries should be set up to help search engines to find the videos, he advised.
Approximately 34 per cent more videos were watched by Americans online in November last year than in the same month of 2007, according to comScore.
