According to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), more and more people in Britain are choosing to use mobile internet services, courtesy of devices such as smartphones and iPods.
The organisation believes the rising take-up of these items is fuelling the current investment in broadband services, with estimates suggesting that penetration will go up by 37 per cent between now and 2013.
Phil Stokes, head of entertainment and media at PwC, commented: "We now expect constant and remote availability."
He added that the emergence of internet-enabled mobile devices means people can view websites and their email account from any location.
This coincides with comments from prime minister Gordon Brown, who told the Times that the government plans to ensure that every home in the UK has access to a high-speed internet connection within the next three years.
