Green IT products 'still perform well'

Energy-efficiency does not have to go hand-in-hand with reduced performance when it comes to IT products and services, an expert has claimed.James Murray, BusinessGreen.com's editor, stated that companies such as data centre and server manufacturers are "aware" that they cannot compromise when it comes to the computing power of their products, but realise that it is important to deliver solutions that have less of an impact on the environment.

"It's become a point of competitive differentiation for a lot of these firms," he remarked. "It's not necessarily [true] that the green model is the poorer option."

Last week Greenpeace published its report Green Electronics: the search continues, which looked at a number of electric products from different sectors to determine how close the technology industry is getting to creating viable, eco-friendly goods.

It found that no product scored high enough to be considered truly green, but the results were an improvement on last year.ADNFCR-1984-ID-18971237-ADNFCR
